Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress begins,
"As I walked through the wilderness of the world, I lighted on a certain place where was a den, and I laid me down in that place to sleep; and, as I slept, I dreamed a dream".
The dream that Bunyan dreamt was of a man who likewise felt that the world he was living in was a wilderness, and who set off on a long journey to escape the wilderness.
Both journeys began with the recognising of one place as a wilderness, and another, dimly glimpsed, as a destination. Dimly glimpsed, only through a dream perhaps, but real enough to set the boots in motion.
